Professional Landscape & Garden Design for Gloucestershire, The Cotswolds, Wiltshire & South Gloucestershire

This garden is on two distinct levels, with one next to the house and the other reached via a steep flight of steps. The upper area is sunny with great views of the town and countryside beyond, but is less private. The lower level is more private but shaded for most of the day, so needed ideas for making it feel brighter and more suitable for alfresco dining.

Due to the age and character of the property a cottage garden feel for the garden was desired and materials used were chosen to compliment the existing ones.

Raised beds were chosen for the lower garden to enable easier cultivation of fruit, vegetables and herbs as the owners suffered from back problems. They also help to balance the strong presence of a split level brick retaining wall at the rear of the garden.

Extra trees and fencing were chosen for screening on the upper level. With flowering shrubs and herbaceous perennials providing colour in the new borders. A gravel path leading from the steps to stragically placed seating under an arbour. A raised bed planted up with a lavender hedge was also suggested to protect an unprotected drop from the upper level to the lower.
