A Creative Design for A Town Garden On Two Levels
The rear garden of this property consisted of a steep barren slope, with narrow steps leading up to it from a long paved area next to the house. It was retained by a blockwork wall that had been left unrendered
The clients wanted to be able to make better use of the upper space, as they were starting a family and wanted a level lawn for the children to play on.
The wish list also included a space for a greenhouse, also planting beds for fruit, vegetables and flowers.
A fence made of iron railings along the rear of the garden also needed screening.
The new design incorporated levels in to the existing slope, with a wide set of steps that were positioned in line with the back door, a second narrower set were included at the furthest end of the garden too. Unilog timber retention was chosen for the retaining walls and mint sandstone paving for the steps and paved areas. Self binding gravel was used for the top path and greenhouse area.
A hand made, bespoke, metal balustrade was also to be fitted to the top of the retaining wall for safety.
